The project

Mind Inclusion 2.0 is a digital platform (web app and mobile app) designed to help people with cognitive and physical disabilities find, reach, and review places and activities using geolocation systems.

The platform is also used by educators, caregivers, and public venue managers to promote social inclusion and to increase their awareness of potential barriers perceived by users.

The challenge

People with intellectual disabilities often face difficulties in accessing public spaces. For this reason, the digital platform was created to support the sustainable and inclusive engagement of people with disabilities in society, promoting a more independent lifestyle.

By integrating ICT tools into the daily work of social workers and educators, the project aimed to strengthen their digital skills at a European level.

  • Find inclusive places nearby
  • Assess the inclusiveness of public spaces
  • Foster more inclusive communities

L’approccio

The project's innovation is grounded in the use of a participatory, user-centered approach throughout all phases. During the project analysis and co-design stages, various elicitation techniques were employed (such as mental mapping, empathy mapping, customer journey, storytelling, etc.) to structure the ER model and the underlying technology architecture.

The development lifecycle followed the Agile methodology, resulting in the creation of the following digital solutions:

  • Back-end platform
  • CMS platform used by administrators to manage accounts and content
  • Android mobile application

  • Node.js
  • MySQL
  • Angular
  • Java

Results

The result is a fully functional, integrated digital platform that meets the project requirements and successfully overcomes all the identified design challenges. The application and its content are continuously maintained, and its user base continues to grow.

The outcomes achieved have enabled the continuation of the initiative through the new project, Mind Inclusion 3.0, planned for the 2022–2025 period.
