BioSoil IoT

Sector

IoT for sustainable agriculture

The project

BioSoil is an IoT prototype integrated with a cloud platform, designed to monitor pesticide degradation in Agri-BioBeds. The system collects real-time environmental and agronomic data to support scientific research and optimize phytoremediation processes in agriculture.

The challenge

The growing focus on sustainability in agriculture led to the need for precise monitoring of the chemical behavior of pesticides. The objective was to develop a modular system capable of integrating soil and gas sensors, collecting external climatic data, and displaying information through a dashboard, facilitating data modeling and scientific analysis.

The approach

The project was structured into several phases:

  • Hardware prototyping with sensors (CO2, O2, NPK, pH, temperature, humidity);
  • IoT integration and data transmission via mobile network;
  • Back-end on MongoDB, API exposure, web visualization;
  • Integration with OpenWeather for climatic data enrichment;
  • BI analysis and interactive visualizations on web app.

All components were designed to be scalable and modular, adaptable to various research scenarios.

Results

The project is currently in field testing as a proof of concept.. Pilot installations are demonstrating the system’s effectiveness in detecting environmental parameters useful for agronomic modeling and for researching organic compounds that can aid in the degradation of pesticides in the soil.
The cloud platform is already being used for remote data visualization.
