Social

The project

Women’s cardiovascular health remains an urgent clinical unmet need, as cardiovascular disease risk in women, particularly those aged 40-60, is often underestimated by both clinicians and women themselves. This leads to cardiovascular diseases being underdiagnosed, undertreated, and poorly understood in this population, despite the potential for personalized risk assessment and prevention to improve health outcomes. Therefore, the goal of the CARAMEL project is to deliver an innovative personalized prevention model for women aged 40-60, using a risk assessment stratification approach that incorporates sex- and gender-specific risk factors alongside self-assessment and self-management supported by cutting-edge digital technologies.

The main objectives

  • Develop a cardiovascular diseases-risk assessment and stratification model powered by AI, integrating data from diverse sources such as EHRs, medical imaging, biomarkers, metabolomics, and lifestyle factors (e.g., sleep, physical activity, diet);
  • Co-design and co-create a self-management app ecosystem with women aged 40-60 to empower them in optimizing their cardiovascular health;
  • Test and validate the personalized prevention program through observational and interventional studies in clinical sites across Colombia, Croatia, Greece, Lithuania, and Spain;
  • Mainstream gender considerations in research and interventions throughout the project;
  • Deliver policy recommendations and clinical guidelines to assist health authorities and providers in updating CVD prevention plans for women aged 40-60, incorporating novel AI-driven risk models.

Role of SocialIT

Whithin this project, Social IT will be the responsible partner for the dissemination of the project, ensuring the distribution of results and innovations to key stakeholders, including women, health authorities, professionals, and the general public, to promote the adoption of the prevention model.
